Web broadcasts (webcasts) and web seminars (webinars) are an increasingly popular tool for communicating with a large, often geographically dispersed audience. Combining a web presentation platform and an audio conference bridge, audiences can hear your message in the comfort of their home or office without the need to travel. Webinars can take many forms: lecture only, audience interactive, and immersive collaboration meetings.
A typical audience is 75-250 in number, though ORR Technology’s, Live Webcast Communications has attracted more than 1,000 attendees to live sessions. The number who will actually attend your webinar depends on the breadth of your contact database and the interest level they have in your message. Use your internal database or buy lists to receive webinar invitations.
Is a Webinar Right for You?
Lead generation - Build your internal contact and prospect database. Find out who is interested in your organization, product/service, and message. Put qualified leads into your sales funnel.
Marketing Campaigns - Use webinars as part of an integrated marketing campaign. Offer a prize to a lucky attendee. Extend your campaign’s theme and key messages through a consistent web deliverable. Gain invaluable audience feedback real-time on what they’re thinking.
Ask the Expert - Do you have an expertise that others are interested in hearing? Webinars are a great tool for timely, targeted communications. Media and analysts appreciate their questions being answered and hearing more about a topic without having to spend a lot of additional time on primary and secondary research.
Virtual Trainings - How do you train the sales team about the new product/service launch? Teaching a class? Use a webinar to deliver the message once without taking your audience out of the field.
Thinking about having your message told via a webcast/webinar? Here are some things to consider:
Don’t do it alone. More than one person is needed to deliver a professional webinar. While the content expert is presenting, there are several other activities happening in parallel: addressing technical issues, interacting with attendee questions, administering polls, and more. Don’t get distracted by having one person do all this and expect to sound professional.
Show your smile. Unlike a business meeting or a conference presentation, where you see your audience, staring at a slide presentation is not as engaging. Include a photo of yourself in your presentation. It puts a face to the voice.
Allow time for questions. Webcasts are often seen as a one-way media. The presentation is given and the audience listens then disconnects with interaction similar to watching television. Webinars are often interactive. Real-time polls provide audience sentiment and opinion. Questions are submitted via text by attendees and addressed by the presenter. Post-event surveys test audience expectation and gather interest in follow-up opportunities.
