Neo-Sky prepares for Spanish field trials of mobile WiMAX

Alcatel-Lucent today announced that it has been selected by service provider Neo-Sky in Spain to field trial an 802.16e-2005 mobile broadband network in Madrid. Services anticipated for testing during the trial include Voice over IP (VoIP), high-speed Internet access and multimedia broadband for nomadic users.

Neo-Sky 2002, S.A. (”Neo-Sky”) is a Spanish communications service provider offering high-capacity services for enterprises based on LMDS, fiber and satellite technology. The provider is one of six operators to hold WiMAX spectrum licenses in Spain. Clearwire’s Aló-Broadcom, Euskaltel, France Telecom’s Orange, Marin Telecom’s aeromax and Telefónica’s Iberbanda are the other five.
